The SCA Group were appointed as the scaffolding, access, and containment contractor for the Centenary Quays project towards the end of 2023.

The residential complex in Southampton comprised of five blocks in total, all of which had been identified as in need of cladding repairs, and fire safety improvements, in particular the installation of brand-new insulation to repair dangerous and outdated materials previously employed on the site.

SCA’s expertise was required to provide full independent, tube and fitting access scaffolds to all elevations of all blocks that were to remain tenanted throughout. All scaffolds were completed with fire retardant netting, and temporary specialist shrink wrap covering to provide the necessary weather protection to allow the controlled installation of high-quality insulation and cladding by the main contractor.

Through SCA’s network of key suppliers, four heavy-duty passenger and goods hoists were installed on site for material movements and to manage manual handling requirements.

SCA addressed multiple complicated issues on site, not least a bid to manage the residents who were not temporarily displaced, meaning the site remained ‘live’ throughout. The complex is complete with commercial units meaning unrestricted access, safety and security were of paramount importance.

Manual handling was a key consideration throughout, and allowing full, unimpeded access to all areas was critical. All scaffolds were complete with system staircases, and an industrial size loading bay was also installed to assist material movements across the site.

Through early project involvement in the planning and preparation stages, and by being fully collaborative with our client and other trades, SCA have made a resounding success of the project which will be delivered ahead of the clients’ schedule.
