SCA Awarded HMP Parkhurst Contract

The SCA Group have been successful in securing the contract to provide specialist temporary access scaffolding at HMP Parkhurst, Newport on the Isle of Wight. The prison is undergoing a multi-million-pound refurbishment to upgrade the Fire Safety provisions in all buildings across the site.

Our main client will oversee the upgrade of the existing active and passive fire protection systems within multiple residential accommodation blocks and cross-site fire alarm cabling and panels, thus bringing the prison a much-needed modernisation to achieve compliance with latest fire safety regulations.

SCA were employed to carry out the necessary access solutions because of their vast experience working in the prison environment. The unique nature of the sector requires intimate knowledge of this type of operation, and thanks to previous successful projects such as HMP Albany, and HMP High Down, SCA have gained the required knowledge to provide the skills and expertise to deliver the required results.

SCA have been recognised as a specialist in the delivery of this type of project, and our service offering critical to the success of the operation. We will contribute our knowledge on programme, buildability, design, safety, cost control and value engineering as required.

SCA will provide temporary scaffolding to 7no housing units to give access to smoke and environmental vents across the length of all buildings, for replacement and upgrade. The access towers have been specifically designed to comply with all prison security and segregation measures. Towers to the front and rear of all buildings are complete with roof saddle scaffolds spanning across the pitched roof for unimpeded access to all areas.

The MoJ is committed to upgrading thousands of prison cells by the end of 2027 to aid the current prison space crisis and SCA are proud to play our part in the process.
