Congratulations to William Hughes, our chargehand scaffolder at the Govan site, for being awarded this month’s Safety Champion!

William showed exceptional vigilance by identifying a large, unsecured piece of steel hanging from a bulkhead 30ft high. If it had fallen, it could have caused serious injury, or worse. Acting swiftly, William sought assistance from a colleague, secured safe access, and removed the hazard, effectively eliminating the danger.

He then promptly completed a Safety Observation report via the Connecteam app, alerting the SCA HSEQ Team and Management. This proactive action enables us to take preventative measures to avoid future incidents.

According to the HSE, 14% of workplace fatalities in the UK during 2023/24 were caused by being struck by a moving, flying, or falling object. This highlights the importance of constant vigilance and risk management on our sites.
