New Project Award – Crown Heights, Basingstoke

The SCA Group were appointed as the scaffolding, access, and containment contractor for the Crown Heights project in October 2024.

The large residential building situated in the heart of Basingstoke city centre, is comprised of two housing blocks and commercial units. It had been identified that there was a need for cladding repatriation and regeneration following discovery of dangerous materials in the external covering of the building, posing a heightened fire risk.

SCA’s expertise and experience in this type of work led to the contract award in late 2024, and the first phase of works involved construction of a designed, heavy-duty scaffold gantry complete with extensive beamwork, to house a number of temporary offices and welfare units to service the site team.

Following completion of the gantry, our operatives moved on to providing the full access scaffolding to the first block. Both blocks were to remain tenanted throughout, and the commercial units fully operational, so site safety, as well as planning for minimal disruption across the area was imperative.

The first block was the taller of the two premises, extending to 19 lifts at one end down to 10 at the other. The block was splayed internally and externally calling on an expert eye and a high skill level to ensure the scaffold was correctly set out.

All scaffolds have been, and will be, complete with fire retardant debris netting, and temporary shrink wrap roof structure to provide weather protection for the clients’ finishing. Once the project is complete, circa 1,400 tonnes of materials will be erect at once to provide the full access the client requires. The site will also be serviced by six hoist units for passengers and materials.
