SCA were proud to offer whatever support they could to help the organisers of such a worthwhile event encouraging children with severe learning difficulties to take part
Dance Live! is a brand new dance event that offers the opportunity for all local schools to take part in a competition showcasing their dance, performance, creativity and team work skills.
The Mary Rose Academy based in Southsea is a school for children with severe and complex physical and learning needs caring for children across the community that are most in need of support. The Dance Live! competition enables the academy to compete on stage with their mainstream counterparts. This provides them with a sense of full inclusion and helps to boost the confidence, social and communication skills and self esteem to name but a few of the benefits.
Pupils and staff at the Academy began rehearsing back in September 2019 and each week worked on developing their ideas for their performance and practicing their choreography. They also had a set and props team who supported them in designing and creating items to help bring the chosen concept to life on stage.
Everyone associated with the Academy worked really hard together with friends and support staff and to perform on stage at the Guildhall must have been such an amazing experience and achievement that they can all be so proud of. The staff and children alike had one of the best days of the school year.
The Mary Rose Academy expressed their thanks to Steve and everyone at SCA for our support in helping bring their ideas to life, and SCA were honoured to be asked to help the children come to life on stage. Bring on next year’s show!
